Ingredients

To make Chinese dumplings, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup finely chopped cabbage or chives
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 package dumpling wrappers
  • Water for sealing the dumplings
  • Vegetable oil for frying or steaming

Instructions

Follow these steps to make delicious Chinese dumplings:

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped cabbage/chives, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced ginger, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Step 2: Assemble the Dumplings

Take a dumpling wrapper and place a spoonful of the filling in the center. Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper in half, creating a half-moon shape, and press the edges together to seal the dumpling. Repeat this process until all the filling and wrappers are used.

Step 3: Cook the Dumplings

You can cook the dumplings by either frying or steaming them.

Frying Method:

Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the dumplings in the skillet, flat side down, and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the bottoms are golden brown. Add 1/4 cup of water to the skillet and cover with a lid. Cook for an additional 6-8 minutes or until the dumplings are cooked through and the water has evaporated.

Steaming Method:

Place the dumplings in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper or cabbage leaves. Steam the dumplings over high heat for 10-12 minutes or until they are cooked through.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

Once the dumplings are cooked, serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as soy sauce,  vinegar and chilli. Enjoy the delicious flavors and textures of homemade Chinese dumplings!

Now that you know how to make Chinese dumplings, you can impress your family and friends with this authentic and mouthwatering dish. Get creative with the fillings and experiment with different cooking methods to find your favorite combination. Happy dumpling making!
